Our History

Sunrise Baptist Church, now Midway Road Baptist Church, began in August 1954 as a Chapel sponsored by the First Baptist Church and Parkview Baptist Church of Fort Pierce.  The Chapel held its first worship services at a temporary location known as "Richard's Dine and Dance."

This young congregation realized the need for a permanent place to worship.  In early 1955 the property at Midway Road and Sunrise Boulevard was acquired.  In a rented tent, on February 16, 1955, this growing congregation met for worship services on its property for the first time.  Worship services continued in the tent until the first building, which is now the office/educational building, was completed in June of 1955.  To provide much needed educational space, a second building, the present fellowship hall, was begun in March of 1957.

As the church worked to meet spiritual needs of the people living in White City, the congregation also saw the Port Saint Lucie area growing and in need of a church.  In 1960, Sunrise Baptist Church started a mission which became Port Saint Lucie First Baptist Church.
